Upon graduation from high school, I joined the United States Air Force where I served four years, including two tours in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. After receiving an honorable discharge, I enrolled at Kennesaw State University and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology followed by a Master’s Degree of Education in Guidance and Counseling from the State University of West Georgia. In graduate school, I worked as a research assistant where I supported and presented research on metacognition and motivation for learning. It was during this time I developed a strong interest in how children learn, and the variables that contribute to resiliency in at-risk youth.
I graduated in 2003 and spent my first three years as a School Counselor at Martin Elementary in Hall County. There I served as the SST Coordinator, 504 Coordinator, and Hospital/Homebound Coordinator working extensively with parents, teachers, and various community agencies to provide academic, as well as personal/social interventions for students.
In 2006, I became employed as a School Counselor with the Forsyth County School System where I worked in the middle school setting for 15 years. During that time, I regularly attended SST, 504 and IEP meetings to provide a supportive and advocacy-based role for students and parents. I moved to Roswell, GA in 2021 and took a position as a Student Support Team Coordinator at Creekview Elementary School. During this time, a professional colleague encouraged me to consider a career outside of the school setting where I could provide educational consulting and advocacy services to families.
I feel it is important to incorporate a work-life balance, and in my leisure time I enjoy traveling, gardening, and spending time on the lake. I volunteer as a child advocate through the Department of Juvenile Justice and serve as a youth group leader at my church. Community involvement is another area of interest, and I have served different roles through Literacy Forsyth, Mentor Me of NE Georgia, and the United Way. The role I value most in my life is spending time with family and being a mother to a teenage boy who is very active in sports.
